October 2009 Bloom Day

Being a newbie to garden blogging I completely forgot that the 15th of every month is Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day. Had I remembered it this post would certainly have been made earlier in the day since none of these pics were taken this dreary, drizzly morning. All are still in bloom along with hopefully a couple of other late bloomers that I have been waiting for.

Just coming into bloom is Chrysanthemum 'Single Apricot Korean'

This Salvia farinacea is one of my first self sown babies from 'Henry Duelberg'. Henry's still alive but needs to be saved from some Mother of Thyme that has completely engulfed him.

This Brugmansia is still going. I'm guessing this is 'Frosty Pink' but haven't really investigated.

Salvia 'Indigo Spires'

Georgia aster with sleeping bee

Another brug that blooms later with a more pendant bloom habit- also a passalong with no id.

Salvia chamaedryoides, Blue Oak Sage

Aromatic aster- a volunteer.

These big box mums have been in my garden for several years.

Swamp Sunflower- Helianthus angustifolius

  2. I always thought the apricot colored mum was just another version (or reversion)of the Shefield Pink. Thanks for teaching me something.

  3. I *love* 'Single Apricot Korean'. It's not in my garden and I'm going to have to do something about that. Next time I go to Niche I've got to get it. Beautiful shot of the pink Brug. Unfortunately I lost 'Indigo Spires', 'Betsy's Choice' and the purple Salvia greggii over last year's wet winter because they were in new heavy beds. Same with the Ga. aster. And do you know I've never yet managed to grow Blue Oak Sage yet? Well, I'll have to enjoy pictures of yours instead. :) I have to keep a lookout for mums like the ones you got at the big box store; not a fan of the typical rust and yellow you see this time of year, but that rosey-pink is beautiful.

Beautiful pictures! Happy Friday and Happy Bloom Day!

  4. Your chrysanthemums are so sweet and I absolutely love your Salvias. Some of my most favorite plants to grow are Salvias.

  5. We really appreciate those late blooms, don't we? You have some real beauties. I love all your salvias, and that Korean Mum is gorgeous. That's a beautiful shot of the Brugmansia.
    Happy Autumn!

  6. Thanks to everyone for the comments. 'SAK' is a favorite of mine but all of the single flowered mums are pretty to me.

Sweetbay- next Spring we should trade mums- SAK for Venus;) Let me know if you need seeds for the GA Aster. I haven't been able to get the Blue Oak Sage going in any other location in the garden. I've often wondered what it is that's special about that bed that makes it so happy there.

  7. Shari it's a deal. :) I found a Ga. aster growing in the vegetable garden yesterday while wading through a ruining forest of tomatoes, hurray!

That's interesting about the Blue Oak Sage. I'm glad you have a place in the garden where it's happy. It's such a beautiful blue.
