Flashback April 2009

April 16th to be precise. Digital cameras are a great substitute for a garden diary. Since I didn't post a Bloom Day entry for April 09 this can serve as my year to year comparison for 2010.

Coral honeysuckle

Salvia 'May Night'

Japanese maple~ I believe that this is just Acer palmatum 'Atropurpureum'

A prolific noid Bearded Iris

Salvia 'Cherry Chief'

Epimedium

Eastern columbine~ Aquilegia canadensis

Mom's passalong Dianthus

Just a little sunshine to brighten this cold, dreary, WET winter!

  1. Your noid iris looks like I. pallida with the stripey foliage, 'Variegata'.

It will be wonderful when April is finally here. I can't wait.

  2. sweetbay, that photo of the iris is deceiving. The variegated leaves belong to nearby Miscanthus 'Cabaret'. I'll have to try to remember to check for fragrance this year- Iris pallida smells like grapes?

  3. The fragrance of I. pallida is very sweet. Most people describe it as smelling like grape Kool-aid. Yours looks like it could be I. pallida. I got a non-stripey version from Karen W and I bought Princess Beatrice (a cultivar of I. pallida) from Superstition Iris and they both have that erethreal look and soft lavender color.
